Justice is done?

Salim Hamdan (Bin Laden's driver) has been sentenced to 66 months in prison for supporting terrorism. The jury made up of American military personnel rejected the prosecutions demand of a 30 year sentence. Considering how long Salim has been detained at Guantanamo Bay Salim is eligible for release in 5 months.... but he probably won't be. The US Government claim they can hold him as long as the "War on Terror" continues, and his detention will be reviewed on an annual basis.

Terrorism will never end, and since the "War on Terror" has no specified targets this means that Salim need never be released. This makes a mockery of his trial.

These trials are only occuring as a way to avoid having to review peoples detention or to seek the death penalty, as these people can be held as long as the US Government wants anyway.

THE CURRENT US GOVERNMENT HAS NO RESPECT FOR DUE PROCESS AND RULE OF LAW.

As the War on Terror is not a "real" war, it is a concept, then after a trial has been held, and a sentence finished, release should be automatic, that is how justice is supposed to work, anything else is a dodge and a mockery of justice.

What is the news for?

I have to wonder what the news is for.

Last week the American Senate released a report that had been delayed for years by the Republicans on the Iraq war.

The conclusion of the report: That the most senior levels of the government had either deliberately misrepresented the fact, or used intelligence that they knew was false to justify the war.

Although the report does not directly say that Bush was aware of this, it does certainly belive he should have been aware of the true intelligence.

The report made it clear that the intelligence agencies did not believe in a link between iraq and al'quida, that war with iraq would increase terrorist threats, and numerous other things that are now coming to fruition.

So here's the question... why aren't they being impeached? Why aren't they being prosecuted? Why aren't war crimes tribunals being organized?

Here's a more disturbing question.... WHY ISN'T THIS ON THE NEWS?

So what American news programs covered this... only one - ABC... It talked about it for 15 seconds, not mentioning what the report actually said.

If you are really dull and would like to read the report then the report is at: http://intelligence.senate.gov/prewar.pdf

US Politics

I don't know about you guys, but I'm finding this Democratic Self-Canibalism thing is getting tired.... I understand leadership challenges, but surely "dishing the dirt" between members of your own party only hurts the entire partys chance of winning, especially since the Republicans already have a clear candidate.

Although I would like to see a Demcorat president, the way they are campaigning at present, I'm not convinced either of the candidates deserve to win.

Iran & Clinton

So clinton has basically threatened to bomb Iran back to the stone age. This was in response to a question what she would do if Iran used nuclear weapons on Israel, however I think that the nature of question and the response is provocative and will do nothing to help international relations.
I know americans need to sound strong, but basically threatening a specific country over a hypothetical question seams counterproductive.
Surely the better answer is "We will try to create a world where that wouldn't happen, however if it did the Iranian leadership would regret it"
If I was choosing a leader I would look for someone who was looking to try to improve the world situation, not throwing inflamatory comments around, nor would I chose someone who's first instinct is to flatten a country.

Quote of the day

"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today, it's already tommorrow in Austrailia"

Charles M Schultz

New Entry

Ok, I'm putting an entry because people have been commenting that I haven't said anything in awhile.

I'm ALIVE!!!!

I am however a bit under the weather, and as it is coming up to election time I am doing my usual thing of helping canvassing and stuff like that. (I am a sad person I know)

So thoughts on what is going on in the world:

Torch Relay: Ok i think Tibet is important but... the olympics are an international sporting event.... i think interupting something that is supposed to bring us together is counter productive... should we challenge China on human rights? DAMNED RIGHT! should we try to screw over the olympics? NO!!!!

On Zimbabwe: This is a no brainer... let democracy rule... Mugabe it's time to go!

On the Diana inquest.... DUH!!! come on already, if you think it was a conspiracy, get a clue... all the theories came from one source... someone who is on the record for bribing politicians... no a good source of info... and the "great butler" he just wants to make money of Diana's rep.
NOW PLEASE CAN WE LET HER REST IN PEACE?

That's pretty much it for an update on my feelings... to be honest, i had to roll them into one post, because my feelings on the subjects are pretty straight forward and to the point.

Social Networking Sites

There are so many different social networking sites out there, to meet new people, find old people, find partners, find people with similar views... and I'm starting to wonder if we need to start a social networking site to keep in touch with people that you met on social networking sites.

Bossy

With how opinionated I am, my step-dad thought this was a good tshirt for me.

If you can't read it properly it says "I'm not bossy, I just have better ideas"
